Obituary: Stephen Turner Hosick

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Stephen Turner Hosick, 66, of Rosiclare went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2012, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

He was born on July 1, 1945, at the old Rosiclare Illinois Hospital to Joseph L. and Ernesteen (Joiner) Hosick. He attended Rosiclare grade and high school as well as Southeastern Illinois College before graduating from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in 1971. In 1976, he purchased the Hosick Funeral Home from his father, becoming the third generation of Hosicks to work in the funeral business. He served the people of Hardin and Pope County for the next 32 years.

Bubby, as he was called, met the love of his life (Carla) when they attended kindergarten together. They were classmates through the twelfth grade even dating some while in high school. After graduating in 1963, Bub and Carla dated for a few years and were married at the Rosiclare Church of Christ on Dec. 18, 1965, both being 20 years old. They would be married a total of 46 years. This union produced a son in 1972 (Stephen Seth) and daughter (Kate Alisbeth) in 1982.

He served his country as an active member of the United State Coast Guard from July 19, 1965 until July 18, 1969. He was honorably discharged from the Coast Guard Reserves on July 18, 1971. Bubby was a member of the Paul C. Rowan American Legion Post 571, VFW and Disabled American Veterans having been injured while on active duty. He served as a Master Mason for 43 years and was Past Master of Rosiclare Lodge No. 1144, was a member of Cave-In-Rock Lodge No. 444 and the Ainad Shrine in East St. Louis, the Delta Shrine Club and a member of the Illinois, Quad County, Egyptian and national funeral directors associations. He loved to play pool and was a member of the Pioneer Pool League in Harrisburg.

He was a member of the Hardin County Church of Christ, having accepted Jesus as his Savior on March 30, 2012.

Bubby is survived by his wife, Carla (Allen) and son Seth of Rosiclare; daughter, Kate of Chicago; two sisters, Janet (Scott) Mohler of Newburgh, Ind. and Susie DeArmon (Mike) of Eldorado; mother, Ernesteen Hosick of Harrisburg; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Lawrence Hosick, Jr.; and a sister, Cynthia Helen.

A public visitation will be held at the Hardin County Church of Christ at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2012, with Masonic Rites at 6 p.m. Bro. Bernie Cowgill will officiate the service immediately following.
