Obituary: John Richard Gates

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[John Richard Gates, 83, of Harrisburg, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

He was born on Dec. 10, 1928, in Harrisburg to the late Everett "Doc" Raymond and Fannie (Prowell) Gates.

On Sept. 4, 1951, he married Mildred S. Turner and she preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2002. John was a member of Buena Vista Community Church and was an Army veteran.

Surviving family members include a daughter, Susan Gates of Harrisburg; son, John Michael Gates of Harrisburg; daughter, Patricia Frailey and husband Rick of Harrisburg; brother, Cecil Gates and wife Aline of Arcola; two grandchildren, Richard Frailey and wife Sherrie of Harrisburg and Robert Frailey of Harrisburg; great-grandchildren, Brittney, Jeffrey, and Bradley Frailey and Hunter, Noah, and Sydnie Chappell; four brothers-in-law, William Turner and wife Shirley of Harrisburg, Steve Turner and wife Wynona of Carrier Mills, Lee Turner and wife Shirley of Marion and Bob Turner and wife Carolyn of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Emma Lou Busby; and father- and mother-in-law, Gus and Nellie Turner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. G.E. Coultas and the Rev. Jimmy Dale Lambert will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at Reed Funeral Chapel.
