VOLLEYBALL: PCHS takes straight set win at DHS
Pinckneyville took command in the early stages of both sets and finished off Du Quoin 25-15, 25-11 in Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division volleyball action on Thursday night at the DHS auxiliary gym.
The Lady Indians fought and stayed close in the opening set until the midway point. Already up 9-8, PCHS would score ten of the next thirteen points to pull away. Du Quoin crept to within five at 20-15, but Pinckneyville closed out the set with five straight points.
The second set wasn't much of a contest, as the Lady Panthers took 17 of the final 23 points.
Emma Banach led Pinckneyville with eight kills, Kylee Kling had six, Keeley Grey added four. Mady Epplin led digs with eight. Mayci Doerflein topped assists with 15, and aces with six.
For Du Quoin, Kenzie Jackson had a solid effort with four kills and seven digs, topping both categories for the Lady Indians. Jordyn Bullar added four digs and two kills. Alaina Caldwell led Du Quoin in assists with nine.
Pinckneyville (11-8, 2-0) has a big week ahead starting with Monday's road match at Herrin. They're back at PCHS on Tuesday to host Anna-Jonesboro before heading to Nashville on Thursday.
Du Quoin (3-10, 0-3) hosts Elverado on Monday, then heads to A-J on Thursday.
