Sigel R. Meler

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Sigel R. Meler, 93, Carrier Mills, died 8:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at Fountain View Nursing Home, Eldorado.

He was born Nov. 24, 1917, in Pope County to Robert and Lizzie (Gee) Meler. He married Ruby Mitchell on May 17, 1941, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 2005.

He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a retired coal miner. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Carrier Mills and the Shawnee Hills Trail Riders Association.

He is survived by three daughters, Becky (Bill) Randolph of Rosharon, Texas, Arla (Jim) Mitchell of Carmi and Beth (Danny) O&#39;Neal of Douglas, Wyo.; eight grandchildren, Randy Randolph, Jarad Mitchell, Luke O&#39;Neal, Jake (Laura) O&#39;Neal, Aaron (Colbie) O&#39;Neal, Caleb O&#39;Neal, Hannah O&#39;Neal and Naomi O&#39;Neal; and three great-grandchildren, Cory Randolph, Duncan O&#39;Neal and Gabe O&#39;Neal.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; daughter, Kathy Meler; and four sisters, Reba Brothers, Wanda Arnold, Wilma Droit and Eva Nell Williams.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home, Carrier Mills. Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home. The Rev. Harl Cockrum will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery with military honors by the Carrier Mills and Harrisburg American Legion Honor Guard.

In respect to the wishes of the family, expressions of sympathy should take the form of memorials to the VNA Hospice or to the Carrier Mills First United Methodist Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
