WEEKEND: Things to Do

<p class="p1">MARROW DONOR REGISTRY DRIVE

<p class="p1">Steeleville American Legion Post 480 will be the site of a marrow donor registry drive on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

<p class="p1">People ages 18 to 44 are encouraged to attend. The event will help find a match for Ali Gerlach, who was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis in May.

<p class="p1">Registering as a donor takes only 15 minutes and a cheek swab sample.

<p class="p1">People who cannot attend the drive can join online at https://join.bethematch.org/AliGerlach. Your swab kit will be mailed to you.

<p class="p1">MUSTANG AND CORVETTE SHOW

<p class="p1">After being postponed due to rain, the third annual Andy's Autobody Mustang and Corvette Show will try again on Sunday at Chester High School.

<p class="p1">"It's grown by more or less of the promotion of it and getting out and talking about it," said event promoter Tom "Lil' Governor" Moll. "We updated the trophies last year to make them better, I think that's our main thing."

<p class="p1">This year's event is geared toward Veterans, will all proceeds to benefit VFW Kaskaskia Post 3553 in Chester.

<p class="p1">"I'd like to invite everybody out to support the Veterans," Moll said. "The Honor Guard will walk through the car show and Red Dot will have its big American flag out.

<p class="p1">"Jackie Hopkins will also be singing the national anthem."

<p class="p1">Moll said raffle tickets are currently being sold for the toolbox that will be raffled off on Sept. 10 during the Popeye Picnic.

<p class="p1">Entry fee for the event is $15, while display only is $10. Registration will take place from 8 a.m. to noon, with awards to be presented at 3 p.m.

<p class="p1">DU QUOIN STATE FAIR

<p class="p2">The Du Quoin State Fair begins tonight and the grandstand lineup features four country concerts, two rock acts, a blast from the past and a contemporary Christian band.

<p class="p2">County music superstar Sara Evans and Thompson Square round out the lineup by performing on Saturday.

<p class="p2">Evans is best known for songs such as, "Suds in the Bucket," "No Place That Far," "Born To Fly," and "A Little Bit Stronger."

<p class="p2">She has also collaborated with Vince Gill and the Warren Brothers, Isaac Slade of The Fray and Gavin DeGraw. She was also the first female country artist to appear on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars."

<p class="p2">Opening for Evans will be Thompson Square. The duo is known for its powerhouse vocals and harmonies.

<p class="p2">Thompson Square has topped the charts in the United States, Canada and Australia with hits such as, "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" and "If I Didn't Have You."

<p class="p2">The husband-and-wife act were recognized as the ACM and CMA Vocal Duo of the Year in 2012.

<p class="p2">The fairgrounds box office will be open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
