OBITUARY: Vera Guylene Alexander
Vera Guylene Alexander, 91, of Springfield and formerly of Carrier Mills, passed away Oct. 16, 2012.
She was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Zeigler, to the late Mike and Mary Dolly Cline McMahan.
Guylene married Everett Edward Alexander of Harrisburg June 21, 1943. They lived for 15 years in Pontiac, Mich., where he preceded her in death May 10, 1961.
She returned to Carrier Mills with their three children, where she owned a hardware store and a restaurant, and then trained to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, working at the Marion VA Medical Center and the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Survivors include her children, Mike (Arlene) Alexander of Fort Myers, Fla., Susan Enstrom of Springfield and Kevin (Kim) Alexander of Evansville, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Tonya (Ron) Uselton of Green Valley, Kelly (Chris) Phillips of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Kyle and Derek Enstrom - both of Chatham, Courtney (Jesse) Sudduth, Caitlin and Christopher Alexander - all of Evansville, Ind.; and six great-grandchildren, Nicole and Jake Uselton, and Jessica, Jacob, Jayden and Jordan Phillips.
At Guylene's request, there will be a graveside service at Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association or to the Arthritis Foundation.
