A 20-year-old Smithton woman, Amber Recker, was uninjured in a single-vehicle accident along State Route 3 between Shawneetown Trail and Old Route 3 on Wednesday.

According to law enforcement at the scene, Recker was traveling southbound on State Route 3 when she attempted to make a left-hand turn onto a private drive.

Recker then lost control of her vehicle, a silver sedan, which overturned and came to rest on its top facing northwest.

The Chester Fire Department was paged out to provide extrication. Chester Fire Chief Marty Bert and fellow firefighter Lorin Mott were the first on scene.

"The lady was trapped in her car when we arrived," Bert said. "We were able to unlock the passenger side door and pull it open to free her before fire trucks arrived."

Bert told the Herald Tribune that Recker was following her GPS prior to the accident.

"She wanted to go hiking at the Randolph County State Conservation Area," he said. "Her GPS told her to turn around, but her brakes did not work correctly."

The accident was reported at 11:31 a.m. and is under investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.
