HHS Theater returns to the stage

HARRISBURG - Harrisburg High School's theater program returned to the stage over the weekend, dodging bad weather and taking extra safety precautions.

At the final performance Sunday, theater director Hannah Drake told the audience prior to the musical that her students had worked hard to make the show a success. The performance was put together in only three weeks of rehearsals and required approval from the school district, the Harrisburg Township Park board and Egyptian Health Department.

Plus, the looming threat of fall rains was present, especially Sunday afternoon, as skies grew increasingly overcast and temperatures dropped.

"We've had a great weekend of performances. I know we've all been holding our breath, saying lots of prayers and crossing all fingers and toes that we, number one, made it to this weekend and, number two, survived all these performances, which I'm happy to say, we're an hour and 15 minutes away from doing," Drake said. "The kids have worked extremely hard on this show and just to get here, following all of our health and safety guidelines.

"I want to say a big thank you to Harrisburg Unit 3 administration, the Harrisburg Park Board and Egyptian Health Department for approving this project. It's been great to be back on stage to bring live theater to our community. It's been one year since we've been able to do that and we are very excited for you all to be able to watch this end result."
