OBITUARY: John E. Ashby
John E. Ashby, 74 of Eldorado, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Deaconess Heart Hospital in Newburgh, Ind.
He was born in Eldorado on Sept. 15, 1939, to the late Hayward and Lula (Long) Ashby. He worked for Yellow Freight Systems in Memphis, Tenn., for 30 years. He was a Air Force Veteran.
On July 21, 1962, he married Rose (Deckert) Ashby and she survives in Eldorado. Also surviving are his children, a son, John H. (Becky) Ashby of Tampa, Fla., and a daughter, Marie Smith of Eldorado. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Christina Ashby of Jerseyville, Mike, Naomi and Marcus Smith, all of Eldorado. Also surviving is a brother Carl Wayne (Patricia) Ashby. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Lukas Carmickle; and three brothers: William Ashby, Charles "Burhead" Ashby and Danny Ashby.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Randy Plunkett officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to service time Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the funeral home.
