William Harold Parker
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Harold Parker, 88, of Harrisburg, and Largo, Fla., passed away on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Fla.
Harold was born on Nov. 25, 1922, in Johnston City. He married Josephine Janell Lindsay, the love of his life, on June 15, 1948; June 15, 2011, would have been their 64th wedding anniversary. Josephine resides at their home in Largo, Fla.
Harold is survived by his two children, Chris Parker and daughter-in-law, Pat Parker of Dunedin, Fla.; his daughter, Penny Parker and son-in-law, Ron Leon Sr. of Charlotte, N.C.; one grandchild, Jeremy Parker Johnson; and three great-grandchildren, Hayley Johnson (8); Parker Johnson (4), and Parker J. Maune (7).
His sisters, Lorraine and Wanda, preceded him in death. His parents, Clyde and Maude Parker also preceded him in death. He has one living nephew in Marion.
Harold was with the First National Bank in Harrisburg for 41 years and was president of the bank for 23 years. He had many friends in the community and continued to attend his Harrisburg High School Class of 1941 reunion until April 2009, when he moved with Josephine to Florida to be near his son. His great love was for his family and friends.
Harold had many friends in Harrisburg and was an avid golfer for many years. He and Josephine traveled and enjoyed their retirement for over 17 years in Ft. Meyers, Fla., traveling between Florida and Harrisburg as snowbirds. He served as president of their condo association while in Ft. Meyers and attended the First Methodist Church in Cape Coral, Fla. He was a positive person with a smile on his face for everyone and could always see the humor in any situation. He was active in many civic organizations in Harrisburg including Kiwanis, the Salvation Army and many others. He was treasurer of the Harrisburg First United Methodist church for 27 years and continued to be active in Methodist Men until he moved to Florida in 2009. He served our country in the United States Marine Corps as a sergeant during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific and Iwo Jima. He was humble to the end, living a Christian life and honoring God and his country.
The Parkers wish to express their appreciation to the many kind people who have helped the family over the last two years, including their neighbors and friends in Harrisburg, as well as at The Barrington in Florida. Josephine will continue to need your prayers and friendship.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. David Estep will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel, and also from 11 a.m. until the service hour on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg, where there will be military graveside rites by the Harrisburg American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials, if so desired, may be sent to the Harrisburg United Methodist Church, and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
