Obituary: William Kel 'Bill' Nyberg
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[William Kel "Bill" Nyberg, 50, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Denver, Colo., on Dec. 14, 2011.
He was born in Vicenza, Italy and spent the first 12 years of his life in a variety of places in and outside of the United States as his father CMSgt (Ret.) William A. Nyberg was transferred by the United States Air Force. The Nyberg family moved to Harrisburg in 1973. Bill attended Malan Junior High and graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1980. After a brief time at Southeastern Illinois College, Bill enlisted in the Air Force and was assigned to Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii, after completing his initial training. Bill moved to Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tuscon, Ariz., in 1982. He left the active duty Air Force to attend Southeast Missouri State University in 1984 but remained in the Air Force Reserve. Shortly after graduating from SEMO, Bill was called to active duty during Desert Storm and served in Saudi Arabia. Bill moved to Denver in 1992 to pursue a career as a U.S. Treasury police officer at the Denver Mint.
Bill is survived by his parents, Bill and Betty Nyberg of Harrisburg; his sister, Annamary Nyberg King of Lebanon; his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Vicki Nyberg of Bellevue, Neb.; a niece, Sara King of Davenport, Iowa; and three nephews, Adam King of Lebanon and Jacob and Joseph Nyberg of Bellevue, Neb.; and a great many friends around the country.
A memorial service for Bill is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Reed Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sky Johnson officiating. Bill will be interred at the Mound City National Cemetery on Jan. 17. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project. The family requests no flowers.
Bill was a kind man with a ready smile, a quick wit, and a generous heart. He loved to read, especially about history and he loved movies. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle and friend.
All who knew him are diminished by his loss.
