Lloyd 'Big Hogg' Adams

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Lloyd "Big Hogg" Adams, 67, 185 Jones Road, Harrisburg, died 9:05 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011, at his residence.

A memorial service for the cremated remains will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

He was born on Feb. 18, 1944, in Harrisburg to Clarence and Shirley (Holmes) Adams. He married Dee Parks in 1999, and she survives.

He was retired from the Sahara Coal Mine, where he worked for many years. He was very active in the Progressive Mine Workers of America union for many years, serving as a union chief for some time.

He loved sports, participating for many years as a referee in basketball, where he was a member of the Illinois High School Association. He loved baseball and softball, where he still played competitively well into his fifties. He was also an avid pool player; he was a member of the Amateur Pool Players of America and the Valley National Eight Ball Association.

He is survived by his wife, Dee Adams of Harrisburg; his parents, Clarence and Shirley Adams of Carrier Mills; two daughters, Tina Smith of Mt. Carmel and Julie Adams of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; three stepdaughters, Lynn Turley, Kelli Fergus and Robin Johnson; a brother, David Adams of Sparta; a sister, Debbie Carrigan of Carrier Mills; two grandchildren, Kesha Bates and Jayden Ditterline; three stepgrandchildren, Ross Simmons, Colton Johnson and Bailey Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Lydia Bates and Audrey Bates; and a great-stepgrandchild, Micah Simmons.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Adams.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the VNA Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
