Catherine Peeples 'Kay' Atwood
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Catherine Peeples "Kay" Atwood, 67, of Shawneetown, passed away at 6:55 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at the Finnie Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Galatia.
Kay was born March 25, 1943, in Shawneetown, the daughter of the late Frederick Lawrence Logsdon and Catherine Rhoades (Peeples) Logsdon, who survives. She was a graduate of the Shawneetown High School, the class of 1962. She played the saxophone in the school band and had won many music awards. After high school she attended Southeastern Illinois College. She was secretary for the Superintendent of Highways and also worked at the Logsdon Hardware Store. She was a lifelong member of the Shawneetown Presbyterian Church.
Kay is survived by her 98-year-old mother, Catherine Logsdon of Shawneetown; three daughters, Stephanie Rider of Shawneetown, Amanda and Ryan Ward also of Shawneetown and Jennifer Atwood of Anchorage, Alaska; three sisters, Libby and Charlie Oldham of Shawneetown, Freddie and Alex Garnett of Harrisburg and Peggy and Ken Luckhurst of Evansville, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Whitney Belford of Eldorado, Matt Rider of Ridgway, Alyssa and Candace Lindsay, both of Shawneetown and Sophia, Cash, and Isabella Ward, also of Shawneetown; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Kay will be held from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. The Rev. Ron Johnson will be officiating with burial at the Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.
