Vivian Lorene Kotner
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Vivian Lorene Kotner, 90, a resident of Fountainview Nursing Home, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Vivian was born in Eldorado on March 21, 1920, to the late Lewis and Evelyn (Waller) Barton. She was the widow of Irvin A. Kotner.
Vivian was a former member of the Eldorado First Baptist Church. She graduated as salutatorian of the 1937 class of the Eldorado Township High School, a graduate of the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, Mo. and a graduate of Southern Illinois University, where she achieved a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy.
Vivian's work history included Pearce Hospital, Good Shepard Nursing Home and R.N. at the University of Illinois Division of Services for Crippled Children. She was Saline County's first public health nurse. She was active in the Sweet Carolines and in 1971 was awarded the outstanding single parent of the year award in the tri-state by the Evansville, Ind. Chapter of Parents Without Partners.
Vivian is survived by four sons, Steven Kotner of Eldorado, Michael Kotner of Springfield, Jeffrey (Lynda) Kotner of Eldorado and Richard (Gale) Kotner of Springfield; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Rosenbaum and Mary Lou Nave.
As per her wishes, she was cremated and a memorial service will be announced at a later date from Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
