Frances ‘Fran’ Anne Calhoun of Carbondale
On Dec. 15, 2025, Frances “Fran” Anne Calhoun went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Fran was born on Feb. 9, 1947, to Beulah Tweedy in Alto Pass. She met her best friend and the love of her life, Wayne Calhoun, at Cobden High School, where she graduated in 1964. A few years later, on June 11, 1966, she and Wayne were united in marriage and shared nearly 60 happy years together.
Fran lived a life of servanthood. Before becoming a full-time mother, she worked as a bookkeeper for both Carbondale National Bank and Calhoun Plumbing. She then devoted herself to raising her family and serving her community. Fran was an active member of Walnut Street Baptist Church (now The Ridge), Beta Sigma Phi, the Friendship Center, and the Baptist Collegiate Ministry. She spent her life loving others, from strangers to family, just as Jesus would.
Fran is survived by her husband, Wayne Calhoun; her three children, Darrell “Derb” Calhoun, Kathryn “Kathy” Carr and Randall “Deke” (Sarah) Calhoun; five grandchildren, Chloe Calhoun, Annie Calhoun, Kaylin Calhoun, Maggi Carr and Arie (Kendal) Beck; and one great-granddaughter, Jordan Beck.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Joan Rider; her son-in-law, Joseph Carr; and her beloved granddog, Lacie.
“Well done, good and faithful servant … enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
