The Saline County 4-H Dog Rally and Agility Show was rained out July 15, but dog and cat exhibitors gathered at the Saline County Fairgrounds on July 17 to complete all classes except for Dog Agility. The date for the Dog Agility Show has been moved to Monday, July 28 at instructor Cheri White’s agility field.

Rally is a State Fair recognized class for Dog exhibitors, and participants must score 70/100 points to advance. Four State Fair ribbons were earned. Hannah Wenzel and Biscuit qualified for State Fair in the Rally Intermediate class with a 99.

In the Rally Novice class, Makayla Miller and January (93), Wyatt Arnold and Sophie (92), and Seth Brown and Zippy (81) all qualified for State Fair. Rounding out the class were Garrett Arnold and Skittles, Ellie DeNeal and Taffy, Addy Oglesby and Sassy, and Bryden Stricklin and Tucker, who all earned Blue ribbons.

Dog Obedience participants, either a new participant and a new dog (Rally A) or an experienced participant with a new dog (Rally B), competed in the Pre-Obedience Rally classes. Rally A County Champion was Mollie Overstreet with Sadee. Rally B County Champion was Abbey Elders with Lilly. Rounding out that class was Bryden Stricklin with Quincy.

In order for 4-H youth to qualify for State Fair in Dog Obedience, they must earn at least 170 out of a possible 200 points. In classes where no member earns adequate points, the top scorer receives a County Champion ribbon.

The County Champion ribbon for Beginner Novice 1 went to Addy Oglesby with Sassy. Beginner Novice 1 is not a State Fair eligible class. Ellie DeNeal with Taffy also competed in this class. The Beginner Novice 2 County Champion was Seth Brown with Zippy. Garrett Arnold and Skittles received the County Champion ribbon for Preferred Novice.

Hannah Wenzel and Biscuit earned a State Fair ribbon in Novice 1 with a score of 192. Also competing in the Novice 1 class was Makayla Miller with January and Wyatt Arnold with Sophie.

Dog Care County Champions were Hannah Wenzel and Biscuit (Senior Dog Care), Garrett Arnold and Skittles (Intermediate Dog Care), and Ellie DeNeal and Taffy (Junior Dog Care). Cat Care County Champions were Promise Messer and Ranger (Senior Cat Care) and Ellie DeNeal and Stella (Junior Cat Care).

A State Fair ribbon for Senior Dog Showmanship was awarded to Hannah Wenzel. Wyatt Arnold received the State Fair Alternate ribbon. A State Fair ribbon for Junior Dog Showmanship was awarded to Garrett Arnold. Seth Brown received State Fair Alternate honors.

Congratulations to all our participants and winners! And a big thank you to Cheri White for conducting the Dog Obedience classes and for organizing the show. Thanks also to Emily Ward and Sierra Wilson for judging this year.
