Virginia ‘Ginny’ Lee Holt of Carbondale
Virginia “Ginny” Lee Holt, 96, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, at The Anchor of Marion.
Virginia was born on April 26, 1928 in Akron, Ohio, to Raymond and Berta (Hoffman) Buice. Virginia married George Holt on Dec. 31, 1948, in Sturgis, Ky. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1997.
Virginia worked for the Illinois Baptist Association for many years in the late 1960s as a secretary and following that she worked for Carbondale Community High School until she retired. She was a longtime member of The Ridge Church (formerly Walnut Street Baptist Church), helping in many capacities throughout the years. Virginia enjoyed singing, camping, boating, Florida vacations, walking on the beach, her Red Hat Ladies group and especially all her grandchildren’s activities.
Virginia is survived by sons Mark (Linda) Holt and David (Jamie) Holt; grandchildren Kristina (Greg), Stephen, Jennifer, Erin, Rachael and Natalie; and great-grandchildren Jillian, Jude, Graham, Virginia and Evelyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Holt; parents Raymond and Berta Buice; and son Craig Holt.
A Celebration of Virginia’s Life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 25 at The Ridge Church with Pastors Mike Young and Wes Henson officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday at the church.
