Gerald Newton Glover of Equality

Gerald Newton Glover, 86, of Equality passed away on Thursday evening, June 8, 2023, with his family by his side at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Ind.

He was born on Sept. 24, 1936, in Equality, the second born to the late Issac Newton and Mary T. (Zirkelbach) Glover. Gerald married the former Norma Elizabeth Raymer on Aug. 6, 1955, and she survives.

He retired after 35 years as a millwright at Laclede Steel Company in Alton. Gerald was a member of the Ridgway Masonic Lodge #816. He was raised to Master Mason on Jan. 7, 1975, in Bethalto Lodge #406 and was past Master for the Bethalto, Equality and Ridgway Lodges.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Norma E. Glover of Equality; one son, Bobby and Joy Glover of Equality; two daughters, Joanna and Steve Connoyer of Moro and Diana and Joe Vogt of Bethalto; four grandchildren, Stephanie and Jeremy Dorris of Godfrey, Shawn and Staci Connoyer of Edwardsville, Tara and Ricky Huebner of Bethalto, and Dylan Vogt of Granite City; six great-grandchildren, Jayna, Austin, Jackson, Hudson, Averie and Reed; two nieces, Nadine and Mark York of Equality and Debbie and Jim Sales of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; and his sister-in-law, Pat Raymer of Harrisburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Louise Patton; and his brother-in-law, Bill Raymer. Visitation for Gerald was held on Monday, June 12 from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality. Rev. Thad Galloway officiated the service with burial at Elmwood Cemetery near Equality. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gerald's name may be made to Equality United Methodist Church and/or Wounded Warrior Project.
