Prep Baseball: Bulldogs take three wins over weekend
Harrisburg improved to 18-3 overall and 6-2 in SIRR Ohio play with an 11-8 win at Murphysboro Friday afternoon.
It was a bit of a seesaw ballgame as the Bulldogs held off a late rally by the Red Devils.
Harrisburg built a 4-0 lead, but Murphysboro cut the deficit to one with a three-run bottom of the third inning. The Bulldogs plated a run in the top of the fourth, but saw MHS grab a 6-5 lead after four innings.
From there, Harrisburg scored a run in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh as the Red Devils' rally was cut short after scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Braden Bergan got the win in relief for the Bulldogs Friday, working 3.1 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on no hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Chance Moscardelli got the start, going 3.2 innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits with four K's and six walks.
Drew Caldwell picked up the loss for Murphysboro in relief of starter Caden Robinson as Caldwell gave up two runs on two hits over two innings with a walk.
Harrisburg had 14 hits on the day as Cameron Ande led the lumber parade with a 3-for-5 performance, including three runs scored and one RBI.
Riley King, Luke Miller and Bergan were all 2-for-4 with King driving in two runs and Bergan finishing with an RBI.
Jackson Pittman, Ethan Golish, Braden Burtis, Bryant Lester and Jack Ford all had one hit with Golish having a two RBI day. Burtis and Lester each drove in one run.
Pittman joined Ande with three runs scored, while Ross Rider scored two. Golish and Ford each scored one run.
On Saturday, Harrisburg knocked off Vandalia 2-1 in Game 1 and grabbed a 7-2 victory in Game 2.
In the Game 1 win,
Harrisburg scored one run in the first inning and added a run in the sixth, holding off a late rally by Vandalia in the seventh.
Braden Burtis singled on a line drive past short in the first inning, scoring Jackson Pittman.
In the sixth, Riley King singled on a hard grounder to left field, scoring Cameron Ande.
Burtis was 2-for-3 for Harrisburg at the plate, while King and Ande each had one hit.
Drew Hawkins took the win on the mound, going six innings and allowing one run on three hits, while striking out three and walking three. Ross Rider pitched one inning of relief ball, striking out one, while allowing one hit.
In the Game 2 victory, Rider grabbed the win, getting the start and going two innings. Rider allowed one run on two hits, while walking three. Mark Miller pitched five innings of relief ball and allowed one run on four hits, while striking out five and walking three.
At the plate, Ethan Golish, Jack Ford and Grant Wilson all had two hits, with Ford and Wilson each scoring two runs. Golish drove in a game-high four runs
Blake Stacey also scored two runs, going 1-for-4, joining Noah Arnold, Reed Rider and Ande with one hit on the day.
Harrisburg was scheduled to host Herrin on Monday, followed by another SIRR Ohio matchup Tuesday at Massac County. Harrisburg will close out the week at home against Carbondale.
