Prep Baseball: Benton rallies to beat Bulldogs

Harrisburg out hit Benton 10-6 Tuesday in an SIRR Ohio clash at Jay Thompson Field, but a late surge by the Rangers pushed them to a 4-1 win.

After Harrisburg went up 1-0 in the first when Jackson Pittman scored on Riley King's groundout to shortstop, Benton rallied for a run in the third, two in the fifth and one run in the sixth inning.

Benton tied the game at 1 when Evan Munoz scored in the top of the third on an Issac Billington double to center field.

In the fifth inning, Reid Baumgarte scored after leading off in the inning reaching via error and Munoz scored on Tyle Chamness' ground out.

In the sixth, Chase Thomas doubled to left field, scoring Asher Wynat.

Munoz led the Rangers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Chamness, Wyant, Thomas and Billington all had one hit.

Thomas and Billington each finished with an RBI, while Wyant and Baumgarte each scored one run.

Pittman paced Harrisburg at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a run scored and Brendan Bergan was 2-for-3.

Ethan Golish, Riley King, Braden Burtis, Luke Miller and Bryant Lester all had one hit, while leaving nine runners on base.

Pittman took the loss on the bump for Harrisburg, going six innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits, while striking out 10 and walking one.

Noah Arnold came on in relief and allowed one hit, while striking out one.

Reid Baumgarte got the win for Benton, working 6.2 innings and allowing one run on 10 hits, while striking out six and walking one.

<b>Harrisburg 4, Carmi-White County 3</b>

A walk-off single propelled Harrisburg to a 4-3 dramatic victory over Carmi-White County Wednesday on the road.

The game was tied at three with Harrisburg batting in the bottom of the seventh when Ethan Golish singled on a 1-1 count, scoring Jack Ford for the game winner.

The Bulldogs opened up the scoring in the second inning, when Ford singled on a 0-1 count, scoring Riley King. Later in the same inning, Luke Miller scored.

Noah Arnold earned the victory on the hill for Bulldogs. The right hander went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out six and walking one.

Harrisburg had five hits on the day as Golish was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Cameron Ande, Braden Burtis and Ford had the other hits with Ford, King and Miller all scoring runs.

Harrisburg travels to Murphysboro Friday, while Benton goes to Massac County. On Saturday, Harrisburg plays host to Vandalia, starting at 11 a.m.
