Prep Baseball: 'Dogs close out week with two dubs
Harrisburg wrapped up its week with a pair of short-game victories as the Bulldogs beat West Frankfort 10-0 and Murphysboro 16-1, both in five innings.
In the 10-0 win over West Frankfort, Chance Moscardelli picked up the win for Harrisburg (15-2, 4-1 SIRR Ohio) on the bump, as the senior went the distance, scattering four hits, while striking out eight and walking two.
Moscardelli is now 4-0 on the season, sporing a .969 ERA with 32 strikeouts and nine walks. He's given up 16 hits and allowed eight runs (three earned).
At the plate, the Bulldogs had 11 hits on the day as Brendan Bergan paced Harrisburg, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Ethan Golish and Bryant Lester each had multiple hit days as Lester was 2-for-3 with a team-high two RBI. Golish had a co-team-high two runs scored, joining Luke Miller as Golish finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Jackson Pittman, Riley King, Grant Wilson and Cameron Ande all had one hit. Ande had one of two doubles on the day and drove in one run, while scoring one run. King and Wilson also had one RBI and a run scored. Ross Rider and Pittman each scored one run.
In the 16-1 over the Red Devils, Harrisburg opened the flood gates early, putting up 10 runs in the first inning. The Bulldogs tacked on three runs in the second and two runs in the third, followed by a run in the fourth.
Again, Harrisburg had 11 hits on the morning as Braden Burtis led the Bulldogs with a 2-for-3 performance that included a co-team-high three RBI and a run scored.
Golish, Bergan and Miller all had two hits, while Golish and Bergan each had two RBI days.
Ande, Lester and Wilson all had one hit, while Wilson and Ande scored two runs. Lester scored one run, joining Drew Hawkins, Pittman, King and Rider.
Noah Arnold went the distance in picking up the win on the mound, allowing one run (unearned) on three hits, while striking out six.
Harrisburg will host Benton on Tuesday. and Carmi-White County Wednesday. The Bulldogs will close out the week at Murphysboro on Friday and a home game Saturday morning against Vandalia.
