Prep Baseball: Harrisburg handles Benton; shuts out Hamilton County

When the rain started coming down, the runs followed suit for Harrisburg.

Trailing 1-0 through four innings, the Bulldogs rallied for a 6-1 SIRR Ohio win over Benton Thursday at Eovaldi Field.

The Bulldogs (12-1 overall, 2-0 SIRR Ohio) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning when Grant Wilson led off with a walk and scored on a Ethan Golish double to right field. Riley King then singled on a line drive to center, scoring Golish.

Harrisburg added a run in the sixth and tacked on three more in the seventh.

Benton's lone run came in the first inning when Jacob Kinsman reached via error with two outs and took two more bases via error and scored on Asher Wyant's single to center field.

Wyant had one of three Benton hits on the day, joining Tyler Chamness and Mason Tieffel.

Harrisburg smacked seven hits against the Rangers as Golish went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Braden Burtis, Jackson Pittman, Reed Rider and King all had one hit.

Wilson had a team-high two RBI, while Bryant Lester and King all had an RBI. Ande had a co-game high two runs scored for Harrisburg and Wilson had one.

Chance Moscardelli picked up the win for the Bulldogs, going four innings and allowing one run (unearned) on three hits, while striking out seven and walking two. Pittman came on in relief and worked three innings, striking out five and walking two.

Kinsman took the loss for Benton, throwing six innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, while striking out four and walking three.

Seth Tate pitched one inning of relief ball for Benton, allowing three runs on two hits, with two walks and one strikeout.

Harrisburg is now 25th in the Illinois MaxPreps.com rankings, while Benton dropped to 133.

Harrisburg's matchup with Marion (19th MaxPreps.com) was canceled due to weather.

For the second time this season, Harrisburg used a pair of pitchers to throw a no-hitter against Hamilton County for aa 5-0 victory Saturday at Jay Thompson Field.

This time around, Drew Hawkins and Noah Arnold combined for the shut out. Hawkins went six innings and struck out seven, while walking three. Arnold pitched one inning in relief, striking out one.

At the plate, the Bulldogs had just three hits on the day as Jackson Pittman, Braden Burtis and Cameron Ande all had singles.

Burtis had a team-high three RBI, while Riley King and Ande each had one.

Ethan Golish and Pittman each scored two runs, while King scored one.

Harrisburg was scheduled to host Murphysboro Monday, followed by a road game at Herrin Tuesday. The Bulldogs (13-1) will travel to West Frankfort Thursday to conclude the week.
