Prep Softball: Harrisburg stays unbeaten; knock off Eagles at home
The Harrisburg softball team stayed perfect on the young season with a pair of weekend wins, including a cross-country rivalry win over Eldorado.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs (8-0) knocked off Galatia 10-0 in five innings and knocked off Meridian 19-0 in four innings.
In the win over Galatia, Kerrigan Payne was 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Sidney Neal and Kinzleigh Smothers were both 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Abby Stacey was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
Payne picked up the pitching win as the senior improved to 6-0 on the season, striking out 10 and allowing just one hit.
Against Meridian, Hallie Boggess picked up the win in the circle, moving to 2-0 on the year. Boggess faced 13 batters, striking out eight.
At the plate, Stacey was 4-for-4 with a team-high five RBI, while Kaylee King went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Lily Cranmore and Harley McCabe were both 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Brooklin Butler was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
On Friday, Harrisburg earned an 8-3 win over Eldorado, where Harrisburg broke a 1-1 tie in the second inning, outscoring the Eagles 6-2.
Payne picked up the pitching win for Harrisburg, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out nine.
Kate Oldham took the loss, allowing eight runs on four hits, walking 12, striking out one and hitting four batters.
At the dish, Kaley King was 1-for-1 with three RBI, including a two-run home run to right field in the third inning. Boyd and Payne were both 1-for-4 as Boyd drove in one run.
Kylee Olgesby led the Eagles at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI. Adrianna Hendrix, Hannah Farmer and Piper DeBose were all 1-for-3 and Oldham cranked out a two-run home run in the sixth inning, finishing 1-for-2.
Harrisburg scored one run in the first inning when Neal reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice-fly by Abby Stacey.
Eldorado responded with a run in the second when Hendrix led off with a base hit and later scored on a base hit by DeBose.
The Bulldogs then plated a run in the second, two in the third and two in the fourth as courtesy runner Hannah Jones scored in the second and King had her two-run blast in the third.
On Thursday, Harrisburg knocked off Plano 16-1 where King smashed a grand slam, finishing with five RBI and going 2-for-2 at the plate. Stacey went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI, while Payne was 1-for-1 with three RBI.
Payne picked up the pitching win, facing 14 batters and allowing one run on three hits, while striking out nine.
Harrisburg was scheduled to play at Du Quoin Monday and will travel to Hamilton County on Tuesday. On Friday, Eldorado will host Harrisburg in the rubber match, while the Bulldogs will host a double header on Saturday, welcoming Union County, Ky., and Pope County, starting at 11 a.m.
