CMSF homeroom challenge: Seniors stuff sophomores for volleyball title

The Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School just completed PBIS Event #2. Homeroom Challenge #2: The Volleyball Tournament took place on Sept. 24. Any student following the Rule of Five (Attend School, Learn Something New, Ask Questions, Tell the Truth, and Treat Others with Respect) were allowed to attend.

Each class had one team of seven players who participated in the tournament. In the semifinals the first team to 12 points and winning by two was the winner. In the Consolation Championship and Championship games it was the first team to 15 winning by 2.

In semifinal #1, it was Mathews' Mighty Marvels (Senior Class) vs. Mitchell's Marauders (Junior Class). Senior Ary Guyton gave her team an early 4-1 lead, but the junior class came back to tie the game at 5. After a very competitive back-and-forth contest, the seniors won the game 14-12. The Senior Class advanced to the championship game while the Juniors moved to the Consolation Bracket.

Semifinal #2 was a matchup of the underclassmen. The sophomore class, Klope's Fighting Illini, faced the freshmen class, Motsinger's Mean Green Machine. In the beginning it was the strong serving of freshman JuJu Crisp and sophomore Laney Rister that led to a 6-6 tie. But, the sophomore class pulled ahead for good and won 12-10. This set up the consolation game with the freshmen vs. the juniors and the championship game with the seniors vs. the sophomores.

In the Consolation Championship, freshman Abbi Pickering served four straight points to send Motsinger's Mean Green Machine on their way to the 15-10 victory over Mitchell's Marauders. Coach Motsinger and his team were presented with the Consolation Championship Belt.

In the Championship Game, Senior Caden VanMeter served 7 straight points for the Mighty Marvels as the seniors sailed to a 15-5 victory over the sophomore class. Coach Mathews was presented with the Victory is Ours! Trophy and the Mighty Marvels were presented with the Championship Belts.

After two PBIS events, the seniors are in first place with 20 points, the freshmen and sophomore classes are tied for second place with 14 points each, and the juniors are in fourth place with eight points. The class with the most points at the end of all the Homeroom Challenges will be given a pizza party on April 29.
