Merry Christmas! Heaven's Kitchen feeds 3,500 for holiday
HARRISBURG - To share the Christmas spirit, state Sen. Dale Fowler and Heaven's Kitchen-Harrisburg volunteers prepared and served 3,500 meals Tuesday.
"This is our largest feed to date," Fowler said. "We're trying to help as many people as we can."
Heaven's Kitchen-Harrisburg served 2,500 meals at Thanksgiving.
About 2,000 of the meals served Tuesday were delivered by volunteers, Fowler said. Meals weren't limited to Saline County: volunteers drove to New Haven in Gallatin County, as well as Elizabethtown, Cave-In-Rock and Rosiclare in Hardin County, and even as far as Cairo in Alexander County to deliver Christmas meals.
In addition, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, plus Woody from "Toy Story" were on hand to provide a socially distanced photo opportunity to children of all ages, plus hand out gift bags.
Fowler praised the many dedicated volunteers at Heaven's Kitchen for being able to provide serve local communities.
"Giving back is what this is all about, and it wouldn't be possible without all the hard work of Heaven's Kitchen's volunteers," he said. "They're the ones who make this possible."
