Veteran killed in Korean War to be remembered

HARRISBURG - A local veteran who died on the front lines of the Korean War will be memorialized at the city's veterans memorial soon.

Don Cooper, a fellow Korean War veteran, said Norman Tolbert will be added to the names listed at the veterans memorial, nicknamed "Little Arlington."

"I went to school with his brother, and we both were in Korea at the same time," Cooper said. "He was in the Marines, and he was in Korea on the front lines when he was killed. I remember I had heard about it."

He said Tolbert's omission from the current list of local soldiers who died in action at the memorial simply was an oversight.

"He's going to be put on the monument. I feel bad, because his brother was a good friend of mine. We want his name on there. I hope the family isn't mad at me," Cooper said.

Cooper also said he believes the city of Harrisburg is going to begin installing memorial bricks at the memorial site.

Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek said the city is continuing to sell memorial bricks in honor of veterans to be installed at the location. The bricks are available for $100.
