HARRISBURG - The number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise, Egyptian Health Department reported, with two more Saline County residents dying, along with 98 new cases reported Friday through Sunday in EHD's three-county service area.

EHD announced Friday that two Saline County residents had died from complications due to the virus.

"We, at Egyptian Health Department, are saddened by this news and our thoughts are with the families," the health department said in a news release.

As of Sunday, Nov. 8, Saline County had 848 positive cases, including 17 deaths. Gallatin County has had 156 cases and two deaths. White County has had 372 cases and six deaths.

The region's high infection rate prompted Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker to announce additional mitigation efforts Monday afternoon.
