Shawneetown hosts Food Fan Caravan

SHAWNEETOWN - Last Wednesday what looked like signs of the beginning of a carnival showed up in downtown Shawneetown.

The folks from Egyptian Expo carnival started arriving and for two days, anyone could at least come out and purchase carnival food or fair food. The Fair Food Caravan allowed people to get a taste of a few items they missed from this summer's canceled Coal Days Carnival. Even the Malone's Taffy booth was there for those who have a sweet tooth. The city of Shawneetown and the Shawneetown Fire Department sponsored the event.

Now if you missed this portion of the Carnival Food event, everyone will have a chance to have another item that was missed from the Coal Days 2020 nonevent - the Shawneetown Fire Department barbecue. Firefighters will be cooking hams and on Oct. 29, 30 and 31, the barbecue on the mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each of those nights. Also orders are being taken for whole hams that will be ready for pick up on Wednesday, Oct. 28. Whole hams must be preordered. Cost is $65 a ham and can be ordered from any Shawneetown firefighter.
