Fowler pushes for ethics reforms, urges Commission on Ethics and Lobbying Reform to reconvene

SPRINGFIELD - On Monday, state Sen. Dale Fowler, R-Harrisburg, issued the following statement, echoing calls from Senate Republican lawmakers to have Illinois' Joint Commission on Ethics and Lobbying Reform resume meetings immediately.

"Ethics reform is not something that should be up for debate. Republican members of the Joint commission on Ethics and Lobbying Reform are urging leaders to acknowledge the need for immediate action and to reconvene the Commission, either in person or virtually," Fowler said in the statement.

"For months now, Republican lawmakers have repeatedly pointed to the culture of corruption currently plaguing the General Assembly and demanded that steps be taken to address this ethical crisis. The longer inaction is tolerated, the more distrust is being created between the public and government.

"There is no reason the commission should not be allowed to meet, resume their work and allow lawmakers to pass critical ethics reforms."
