With care Harrisburg Boy Scouts spruce up Veterans Memorial

HARRISBURG - Harrisburg Boy Scout Troops B and G joined forces Tuesday evening to help spruce up the Veterans Memorial area at Sunset Lawn Cemetery.

The memorial, which was renovated earlier this year, features an arrangement of white crosses, one for each Saline County veteran killed in U.S. military action since World War I.

Scouts from both troops (boys and girls) along with parent volunteers and leaders pulled weeds from landscaping, washed the crosses and statues of soldiers and used weedeaters around the area.

Harrisburg Cub Scout leader Chris Spanel and his son Jordan, along with another Harrisburg Cub Scout, also helped with the project.

Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek said he was proud of the young men and women who helped.

"I want to say a special thank you to the Boy Scouts," McPeek said. "Future leaders of our community were shown tonight and I couldn't be more proud to represent Harrisburg."
