Marion Police Chief David Fitts was the featured speaker at the Marion Lions Club Wednesday. A Marion native, the longtime state police officer was hired by Mayor Mike Absher to take over the reins as chief following the retirement of Dawn Tondini a few weeks ago. Fitts said he plans to increase staff training and have his officers get more involved in the community. He also showed off a new police logo that will be affixed to uniforms and the like. It features the clock tower, the year the city was incorporated, and script that reads Marion Police, Serve and Protect. The color scheme is blue and gold, the colors of the school district. Seated in the background is Lions Club member Cherrish McCoy.
