Harrisburg battles back to beat Herrin

The Harrisburg softball team overcame an early deficit to fight back and beat Herrin 9-5 Monday.

The Bulldogs (21-3 overall, 6-2 SIRR Ohio) outhit Herrin 13-7 and had two players go deep.

Kerrigan Payne was 3-for-3 on the day with a two-run home run in the sixth inning and Karsyn Davis smacked her 10th home run of the year as she went yard in the fifth inning, finishing 2-for-4 and is now one home run shy of tying the school record.

Mya King was also 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Madeline Rider, Essence Sanders, Lydia Miller, Hannah Reid and Haley Sullivan all had one hit.

Kerrigan Payne improved to 16-3 in the circle as she went the distance, allowing three earned runs on five hits, while striking out four and walking five.

Harrisburg was scheduled to play at Massac County Tuesday and will return to action at home Friday against Murphysboro, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

<b>Fairfield 18, Gallatin County 10</b>

The Gallatin County softball team committed 10 errors in an 18-0 loss to Fairfield Monday afternoon.

MaKenzie Russell got the start for the Hawks and went 5.2 innings, allowing eight runs (three earned) on eight hits, while striking out four.

Audrey Jackson came on in relief and worked one inning, allowing 10 runs (none earned) on four hits with one strikeout.

Megan Morgan and R. Brockett were both 1-for-2 at the plate.

Gallatin County was slated to host Agape Christian Tuesday and is scheduled to host Crab Orchard on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
