Two bikers killed in head-on with truck

Two motorcycle riders were killed Saturday evening when their bike crashed head-on into a truck on Route 148, about a half-mile south of Pigeon Creek Road in Williamson County.

According to Illinois State Police District 13, both the driver and passenger on the motorcycle were killed.

The state police have not yet released the identifications of the victims, pending the ongoing investigation and notification of the family.

The state police's preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle was southbound on Route 148 at about 6:50 p.m. when it crossed over the center line into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a 2010 International Truck Tractor/semi trailer.

Police say the truck driver could not avoid the collision.
