Galatia-Thompsonville upends Edwards Co. in regional semis

The Galatia-Thompsonville softball team secured its spot in the Bearcats' eighth straight regional championship game after a 4-2 IHSA Class 1A semifinal win over Edwards County Tuesday afternoon.

Dani Reynolds (17-3) picked up the win for G-T, who improved to 20-3 on the season. Reynolds, took a two hitter into the seventh inning and allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out four.

At the plate, Maddy Murphy was 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Kennedy Harris, Cassi Cotter and Leah Davis all had one hit. Harris went 1-for-3, while Davis was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Cotter finished 1-for-1.

The Bearcats scored three runs in the third inning and an insurance run in the fifth, while Edwards County's rally fell short after putting up two runs in the seventh.

A pair of weekend wins against Hardin County and Eldorado have G-T riding a three-game win streak. The Bearcats were enjoying the school's largest winning streak at 17 straight before a 3-1 loss to Du Quoin late last week.

Galatia-Thompsonville will be looking for its seventh straight regional title Saturday when they meet up with Goreville (17-8), who knocked off Grayville Wednesday.

The one meeting between Galatia-Thompsonville and Goreville was canceled this year due to rain.
