CGS fifth, sixth grade teams place in area tournaments

Chester Grade School Fifth Grade participated in the Anna tournament held the last week of February. After defeating Jonesboro and Goreville, they played for championship against Vienna, winning that game 38-16.

Earlier in their season, the team placed third in the Pinckneyville tourney and first in the hometown tournament at St. John's. The team ended up winning 30 games for the year.

The Chester Sixth Grade also participated in the Anna tournament. In the first round game, the team played Jonesboro close first half, only down by 4 going into the halftime. Jonesboro opened up the lead in the third quarter outscoring the Chester team by 5, leading the YellowJackets by 9 going into the final quarter. They could not overcome the deficit, so this sent them into the consolation bracket.

Up next, CGS Sixth grade faced off with Unity Point of Carbondale. They started off well, leading 15-4 going into the half. Unity point came back strong in the 3rd quarter, bringing the score within 2. The two teams battled it out all the way to the finish, with CGS staying on top with a score of 28-25. The final game of the tournament placed them in the consolation championship bracket where they faced off with Century. The baskets were falling well for these young Yellowjackets as they defeated Century for the championship with a score of 40-21.
