The Coulterville VFW Auxiliary Post 6865 had its meeting Monday, Sept. 11 at the post home. After the previous meeting minutes and treasurer's report were read, there was discussion about upcoming events. There was talk about putting a booth up at the park grounds and if anyone would want to participate in the parade. The Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen essays are due at the post or to Diana Cole Oct. 31. We will judge the entries Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m. They will then be sent to district. The Voice of Democracy and Patriot's Pen Banquet will be held at the Coulterville VFW Dec. 2. We also had two petitions for new membership and one reinstatement.
The Coulterville Historical Society met Thursday at 7 p.m. in Dr. Pflasterer's office building. There were 12 members present. A donation was made to the society from the St. Anthony's Men's Club.
Joyce Burns and I went on a shopping trip to Fairview Heights Friday. We had lunch at Olive Garden.
David and I had supper with Lynne Brazinski at the Oakdale Country Kitchen Friday evening.
On Saturday David and I picked up Elodie and Daxton Stewart and attended the Korando family reunion at St. Ann's Community Building in Raddle. Dennis Korando and his wife, Wanda, and daughter Tammy Grime were the hosts. Dennis took anyone that wanted to go on a hayride. Some of those in attendance were David and Mary Ann Korando, Loretta Peters, Joe and Jeanette Fruth, Mary Jo Homan and her dad Bernard Korando, Harold and Judy Korando, Justin Morgan and family, Loretta Morgan and family, William and Linda Moody, Dan and Eula Korando, and Edgar and Delephine Misselhorn, just to name a few.
Matthew Korando and his first wife Katerina came to the United States and settled in Cape Girardeau before moving to the bottoms of Illinois. Coming to America from Bohemia with them were their three children, Joseph, Barbara and Albert. Daughter Anna was born in Cape Girardeau.
The Coulterville Fall Festival is Saturday, Sept. 23. The parade will be at 10 a.m. by the ball diamond.</group><group id="DDB5440D-17EE-40BD-A47F-76C3348AEA78" type="seoLabels">
