ZIP Code Day at the Carrier Mills post office

CARRIER MILLS - Visitors to the Carrier Mills Post Office on Thursday got to take part in a once in a century event - what post office personnel were calling ZIP code day.

The name comes from Thursday's date of June 29, 2017, or more commonly 6-29-17. That number, 62917, happens to be the ZIP code for Carrier Mills.

Carrier Mills Postmaster Pamela Hicks said several postal workers gathered early for a photo before starting their routes.

Jan Miller of Carmi, mother of postal employee Pamala Bynum, volunteered at a small booth to hand out a flyer with the day's postmark stamped on it, along with ice cold bottles of water, Yankee Candle samples, cookies, fans with a patriotic display and other items.
