Helen Lucille Keiner, formerly of Du Quoin

Helen Lucille Keiner, 98, of Centralia, formerly of Du Quoin, died Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Centralia Manor in Centralia.

Born in Pinckneyville on Aug. 1, 1918, she was the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Brand) Mohr.

She married Raymond Keiner May 23, 1939, at St. Bruno Church in Pinckneyville. They moved to Du Quoin shortly after. They were married 66 years until his death in 2005.

Mrs. Keiner's family includes daughter-in-law Vera Keiner of Columbia, Md.; son Ed Keiner and wife Maryann of Noblesville, Ind.; daughter Linda Schwartz and husband Steve of Centralia; and daughter Janet Scott and husband John of Lake-In-The-Hills.

Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Vince Schwartz of San Clemente, Calif., Nick Schwartz of Waterloo, Stephanie Meyenburg of Granite City, Doug Schwartz of Haubstadt, Ind., Christine Keiner of Rochester, N.Y., Greg Keiner of Ellicott City, Md., Sonia Keiner of Upper Marlboro, Md., Chris Keiner of Indianapolis, Ind., Anastasia Quirk of Louisville, Ky., Casey Keiner of Noblesville, Ind., Jeff Scott of Ridgecrest, Calif., and Jill Scott of Centenniel, Colo.; 20 great-grandchildren; sister Dolores Folkerts and husband Jack of Overland, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Keiner was preceded in death by her son, James; her parents; sisters Alberta Epplin and Wilma Fischer; and brothers Firman Mohr and Elmer Mohr.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America of Sacred Heart Church in Du Quoin for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, quilting, reading, and cooking and baking for her family. She was most proud of the fact that all of her children and grandchildren completed college.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with the Funeral Mass of Celebration following at 11 a.m. with Fr. Joseph Oganda officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin.

Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Alzheimer's Association or the Pancreatic Cancer Network. They will be accepted at the funeral home.
