Steeleville BOE formally approves Fiene
The Steeleville District 138 Board of Education formally approved Steeleville High School assistant coach Aaron Fiene as the new boys basketball head coach during its May meeting on Monday.
Fiene, 38, replaces current SHS athletic director Bryce Bainter, who stepped down in March to spend more time with family. Bainter will remain as athletic director.
In other personnel moves, the board approved the resignation of Bainter and art/social science teacher Alison Roehrig. District Superintendent Stephanie Mulholland said Roehrig has taken a position in the Dupo school district.
Also approved was Eric Raby as the new Steeleville Elementary School junior high athletic director.
In other news, the board approved the 2017-18 coaching positions, with Brandon Smith taking Fiene's former position as the freshman boys basketball coach. All other positions remain unchanged from the current school year.
Mulholland also gave the Steeleville Ledger an update on summer repairs, which start Monday. The last day of school is today.
Among the projects to be worked on are re-insulating chilled water piping in the elementary school; replacing a few exterior doors in both buildings that are original construction; repainting the elementary school gym and replacing tile in the 2001 building addition.
"It's just a package of work," Mulholland said.
Ron Gobin, of Murphysboro, won the bid of $234,000 for the miscellaneous projects. Fager-McGee, also of Murphysboro, submitted the winning bid of $448,000 to replace the exterior windows in both buildings with double-paned, energy-efficient glass that blocks 35 percent of sunlight.
Sales tax funds will be used to pay for both bids.
"They're going to do the high school first and see time-wise how long that takes and then replace windows in the grade school," Mulholland said.
