Lady Yellow Jackets finish second, boys third in Rocky relays

CHESTER – The Chester High School boys track and field teams competed March 28 in the annual Rocky Bridges Relays.

The event is named after Rocky Carroll Bridges, former Chester High School teacher and coach. The Chester girls finished in second place, while the Yellow Jacket boys finished third.

In the girls' division, Nashville won the meet with 114 points, followed by Chester in second place with 102.

Murphysboro (3rd, 84), New Athens (4th, 44); Red Bud (5th, 36) and Columbia (6th, 20) rounded out the other teams.

In a "relay" meet, all scores are computed by combining relay times. Each event is set up in a relay format.

There are no individual events, as each event is a relay of sorts.

In the field events, the top-two performances or distances are combined to create a total score which determines the various place-finishes in each event.

In the discus, Hannah Schweizer and Maddie Hoffman combined for a total distance of 189-2. The duo teamed up again in the shot put to finish runners-up with a combined throw of 63-8.

Jessica Kattenbraker and Katie Hoffman worked together to finish second in the high jump with a combined height of 9-6.

Katie Hoffman and Tayler Howie earned runner-up status in the triple jump (57-0) and Abby Myers and Liz Mitchell combined for a vault of 13-0.

Finally, Ashtyn Jany and Audrey Hopper teamed up to place fourth in the long jump with a combined jump of 24-0.

In the running events, Chester won the shuttle hurdles with a time of 1:13.6. That hurdles relay consisted of Abby Myers, Kara Knop, Liz Mitchell and Morgan Atchison.

Chester's 800-meter (1:53.6) and 1,600-meter (4:20.6) also took home first places titles.
