Hawks post shut out over Pope County
Gallatin County improved to 4-1 with a shutout over Pope County Tuesday.<br />The Hawks, behind seven hits, beat their Greater Egyptian Conference counterpart 3-0 at home.<br />Wyatt Downen went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, while Audie Goebel, Clay Pritchard, Lucas Hise and Hunter Walters all went 1-for-3.<br />Pritchard had a pair of RBI in the sixth inning that added two crucial instance runs to the Hawks' total. Downen had the other RBI.<br />On the bump, Audie Goebel went the distance, giving up just one hit with seven strikeouts and two walks.<br />"Audie Goebel did a nice job of getting ahead of the batters and attacking the strike zone," GCHS head coach Mark Hiller said. "Our defense made the plays behind him, which wound up being the difference in the game."<br />Gallatin County returns to the diamond Thursday at home to play Hardin County and will host Carrier Mills-Stonefort on Saturday.<br /><strong>Crab Orchard 4, Galatia 3</strong><br />The Galatia baseball dropped to 1-3 on the season with a 4-3 loss to GEC rival Crab Orchard Tuesday.<br />Cayleb Reed went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Bronson Stanley was 2-for-3 including a home run.<br />Cooper Patterson allowed three hits, while striking out 12 in the loss.<br />Galatia host Hardin County today (Wednesday) at 4:30 p.m.
