Lady Indians cruise to win in first home meet of the season
The Du Quoin Lady Indians track team had its first home meet of the season Tuesday evening, hosting Sesser-Valier, Pinckneyville and Woodlawn. <br />Du Quoin dominated the field, winning 13 different events and finishing with a team score 133 points, well ahead of Sesser-Valier and Pinckneyville who finished with 57 and 49 points, respectively.<br />Tarynn Mays led the way for the Lady Indians, taking first in three individual events. The long jump (with a jump of 16-2.5), triple jump (with a jump of 36-9) and 100-meter dash (with a mark of 12.70).<br />She also was part of the 4x100-meter relay team (consisting of Mays, Hannah Baxter, Baily Harsy and Madison Davis) who took first with a time of 54 seconds.<br />Other individual winners for Du Quoin were Quinn Kirkpatrick in the pole vault with a vault of 6-feet 6-inches to tie with Woodlawn's Holli Buretta; Mishka Monroe in the shot put with a throw of 31-4.25, finishing ahead of teammate Maci Collins (with a throw of 30-8.5; Arra Barwick in the discus throw with a mark of 76-07 to finish ahead of teammate K-Sha Morgan who finished with a mark of 72-11.75; Kate Smith in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:46; Andrea Lopez in the 1600-meter run and 3200-meter run with times of 6:35.45 and 14:24.44, respectively; and Shelby Wheeler in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.6 seconds. <br />In relays, Du Quoin took first in the 4x100-meter relay; 4x200-meter relay (consisting of Rylea McDonald, Madison Jones, Skye Westerhouse and Olenicia Cole who finished with a time of 2:02.4) and 4x800-meter relay team. <br />Individual winners for Pinckneyville were Shania Opp in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.76 and Consuela Moll in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.56. <br />The Lady Panthers also finished first in 4x400-meter relay (consisting of Olivia Buzz, Emalee Chaney, Moll and Keely Epplin) with a time of 4:50.36, edging out Du Quoin (which consisted of Kaylee Stanhouse, Alyssa Loyd, Kate Smith and Jennifer Lambert) who finished in 4:56.15.<br />The Lady Indians will resume action with a meet at Herrin next Tuesday starting at 4 p.m., while the Lady Panthers who travel to the Benton for a meet Saturday at 10 a.m.
