John L. Donovan

John L. Donovan, 75,o f Murphysboro and formerly of Harrisburg, passed away at 2:39 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at St. Joseph Hospital in Murphysboro.

John was born on February 9, 1941, in Harrisburg, Illinois, to Jack Donovan and Winnie (Hodeson) Donovan.

He was retired and had worked for thirty nine years as a crew foreman for Egyptian Electric Corp.

Mr. Donovan was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local # 702, American Legion Post # 127, V. F. W. Post # 127, and Moose Lodge.

He married Nancy Roberts on November 29, 1975, in Murphysboro, and she survives.

Other survivors include two daughters Shawnna Donovan of Marion and Elizabeth Dixon of Murphysboro; one son in law Jason Dixon of O'Fallon, MO; two grandchildren John Dixon and Catilyn Dixon, O'Fallon, MO; three sisters Sue Lambert, Michaela Davis, and Erin Beere, all of Harrisburg; a special friend Walt Tackitt of Hurst; and a special nephew and niece Kenny and Yvonne Roberts.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Elizabeth Patterson, one sister Peggy Lands, and his parents.

His body will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Post # 127, 1700 Gartside Street, Murphysboro, at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2016.
