GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lady Indians dominate Zeigler-Royalton
Du Quoin sank eight three-pointers for the game and raced out to a 20-0 lead after one quarter of play, going on to win Tuesday night's home game with Zeigler-Royalton 65-21.
Hannah Baxter led the Lady Indians with 14 points, Meryn Gross had 12.
Du Quoin dominated the first half, during which Alaina Caldwell scored all 9 of her points, all on three-point shots. The Lady Indians took a commanding 33-4 lead into the break.
After halftime, head coach Shawn File gave several freshmen an opportunity to see extended playing time, and all five of them were able to score by the end of the game. In addition to Gross putting in a dozen, Chloe Hill scored 8 points, Olivia Whitley had 6, Katie Smith 5 and Morgan Bullar 4.
Kate Smith (3 points), Sadie Day (2) and Mackenzie Jackson (2) also scored for Du Quoin in the lopsided win.
The Lady Indians (8-11) host the Nashville Hornettes on Thursday night in Du Quoin before traveling to Hamilton County on Saturday.
