Lady Yellow Jackets sweep competition

<span>The Chester High School Lady Yellow Jackets swept the competition last week in a three-game stretch, hosting Zeigler and Shawnee and traveling to Trico.</span>

<span>The Jackets beat all three schools to improve to 7-4 on the season and 2-1 in the Black Diamond Conference.</span>

Chester 61, Z-R 26

<span>Against Zeigler-Royalton, Chester had a monster first quarter and outscored the Tornadoes 20-8. The Lady Yellow Jackets led 39-12 at halftime and took a 55-21 advantage into the fourth quarter. </span>

<span>For the game, Kaitlyn Dillow led the Jackets with 16 points, three rebounds, two assists and six steals. Alexis McMath followed with 12 points, one rebound, and two steals.</span>

<span>All but three Lady Yellow Jackets scored, with Haley Middendorf and Emily Tudor each adding six points apiece.</span>

<span>Maddie Hoffman and Carlee Weir added four points apiece and Taylor Dunning, Katy Hoffman and Jackie Hopkins scored two points each.</span>

<span>As a team, Chester recorded nine offensive rebounds, 11 defensive rebounds, 10 assists, 20 steals and 31 stops. From the field, the Lady Yellow Jackets shot 41 percent (26-of-51). </span>

Chester 63, Shawnee 36

<span>Against Shawnee, the game was tight early as Chester led by only one point, 12-11, after one quarter of action.</span>

<span>A big second quarter extended the lead significantly as CHS outscored Shawnee, 22-9, to lead 34-20 at the half.</span>

<span>The Lady Yellow Jackets came back strong again in the third quarter outscoring Shawnee, 15-3, to lead 49-23 after three periods.</span>

<span>Chester had four players score in double figures with Carlee Weir leading the pack with 16 points, followed by Kaitlyn Dillow (13), Alexis McMath (13) and Haley Middendorf (10).</span>

<span>Other CHS contributors included Maddie Hoffman (7), Emily Tudor (2) and Logan Colvis (2).</span>

<span>CHS had five players grab six rebounds apiece including Colvis, Middendorf, McMath, Weir, and Maddie Hoffman.</span>

<span>The Lady Yellow Jackets out-rebounded Shawnee, 42-21, and committed only 12 turnovers. On the defensive end, Chester had 13 steals and 34 stops.</span>

Chester 47, Trico 36

<span>Chester played the final game of the week at Trico High School against Black Diamond Conference foe Pioneers.</span>

<span>CHS led 13-10 after one quarter of play and put together a big second period to lead 28-14 at halftime.</span>

<span>Things cooled down to start the second half, but Chester still maintained a nice 35-23 lead going into the fourth quarter.</span>

<span>The Pioneers outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets in the fourth quarter, 13-12, but it was too-little-too-late.</span>

<span>Only five Chester players contributed offensively in the victory as Carlee Weir (14), Kaitlyn Dillow (12), Emily Tudor (9) and Logan Colvis (6) did the honors for CHS.</span>

<span>Chester shot 67 percent (22-out of 33) from the free-throw line and 24 percent (12-of-50) from the field.</span>

<span>All five Lady Yellow Jackets battled on the boards with Haley Middendorf leading the charge with nine rebounds.</span>

<span>Other rebounders included Colvis (7), Dillow (7), Tudor (5) and Weir (3). As a team, the Yellow Jackets were outrebounded by Trico by two boards, 33-31.</span>

<span>CHS dished out only three assists, but also recorded 12 steals and 30 stops against Trico. Finally, the Lady Yellow Jackets record a season-low eight turnovers.</span>
