GIRLS BASKETBALL: DMS defeats #204, 56-35
The Lady Warriors used a 22-point second quarter to pull away from Pinckneyville District #204 on Monday night, hanging on in the second half to complete a 56-35 win in Du Quoin.
The Lady Tigers were up 11-8 after the first period, but DMS's Chloe Hess put in a dozen points in the second as the Warriors outscored #204 22-8 to take a 30-20 lead into the break.
Pinckneyville got no closer than 9 points down in the second half.
Hess finished the game with a team-high 14 points for Du Quoin. Braylee Watson was in double figures as well, finishing with 11 points. Chloe Prather had 8 points, Bailey Harsy had 7, Ella Hirsch, Elizabeth Bird and Emily Green each had 4, and Alyiah Waters and Raelyn Hinton both scored 2.
For the Lady Tigers, Aubrey Bruns led all scorers with 16 points. Olivia Buza added 7 points, Kassidy Lee 6, Bella Pasquino 3, Ashlee Hirsch 2 and Gracie Collins had 1.
Du Quoin also won the seventh grade game, 36-10, getting 6 points apiece from Hirsch and Delaynie Dearmond. Pasquino led Pinckneyville with 5 points.
DMS (8-6) is at Chester on Tuesday night, then back home Thursday against West Frankfort. Pinckneyville Dist. #204 (15-5) is at home on Tuesday against Giant City.
