First semester a rewarding one for new social studies teacher
Ben Hunter is winding down his first semester as a social studies teacher at Chester High School.
Hunter was raised in Biggsville and attended Union High School.
After graduation, Hunter went to Monmouth College. Four years later, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in History.
He was a member of the football team for all four years at Monmouth and thoroughly enjoyed playing football at the college level.
After graduating from Monmouth, Hunter continued his postgraduate education at Western Illinois University in Macomb, where he earned a master's degree in Sports Management.
He has always had a keen interest in sports and has spent a huge portion of his life involved with numerous sporting endeavors, especially football.
Hunter's hobbies and interests include the fact that he is a huge fan of the Chicago Bears. He is likewise a big fan of the Chicago Blackhawks.
In his spare time, Hunter enjoys "Game of Thrones." He further likes reading books, especially anything to do with the subject of history.
Thus, he lives his passion by teaching various courses in history.
According to Hunter, when he isn't reading about history, he spends time reading the "classics" and other interesting forms of reading material.
"I want to prepare students for life after high school and to have fun in accomplishing that goal," Hunter said, when asked if he has any special goals associated with his new position at CHS.
Hunter was an assistant coach for the football team last season and he occasionally volunteers for after-school duties at various CHS sporting and extracurricular events.
Hunter stated that his first semester here at CHS and in the community of Chester has been successful and rewarding.
He looks forward to next semester and enjoys meeting new students and as many people in the community as possible.
