Past prays for Saline's future
With another year gone by Saline County locals are seeking blessings from above for the year to come.
Saline County Historical Society hosted a "Blessing of the County" at the Saline Creek Pioneer Villiage and Museum. Area locals filled the Cain Church located on the museum grounds and sang hymns and prayed for the blessing over Saline County's.
"We chose this location because it is the historical base of our county," said Mark Motsinger, president of the Historical Society.
Cain Church is a beautiful 1871 one room church house. The walls are white and a black pot belly stove sits just left of center in the room. Lit by only a few kerosene lamps the room had a peaceful glow as those in attendance sang and asked God to bless our leaders and citizens.
"I would love to see more area pastors and area leaders get involved in this event," Motsinger said. "I was glad to see Mayor (Dale) Fowler here."
Motsinger took over as president for the society back in March. The Historical Society has really seen some improvement under his leadership. Other members were in attendance and the entire ceremony was lead by Jonathan Gericke.
Afterward everyone walked over to Aydolette Cabin, which was built in 1849, to enjoy Christmas cookies, some hot cider and hot chocolate.
The Historical Society will host its official tree lighting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, with entertainment provided by Charles Bramlet, a Christmas Story read by Emily Drone of the Harrisburg Publice Library, an appearance from Santa Claus, and words spoken by Fowler and Motsinger.
