Randolph County leads the state after first firearm weekend

<span>Randolph County led the way in the most deer taken after the first weekend of firearm season according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.</span>

<span>The IDNR reported hunters took nearly 58,000 deer Nov. 20-22. That is up nearly 6,000 from last year.</span>

<span>Randolph County hunters recorded 1,619 deer to lead the state, an increase of 235 from 2014.</span>

<span>"Randolph County is a good place to hunt," said Randolph County Sheriff Shannon Wolff. "I feel we have a good area here."</span>

<span>The fewest deer killed were in Lake County with only four. Jackson County was second with 1,586 deer taken.</span>

<span>The second segment of this year's season is Thursday through Sunday and the muzzleloader season is Dec. 11-13.</span>
