Wanda Abney, 95, Harrisburg

Wanda Abney, age 95, of Harrisburg, passed away at 8:46 PM, Thursday, November 26, 2015 at her residence in Harrisburg.

Wanda was born on September 8, 1920 in Harrisburg to the late Jack and Ora (Barger) Sweat. She married Marion Abney in 1939 and he preceded her death in 1994. Wanda was a member of Land Street Church of God.

Surviving family members include her two daughters: Patty Odle and Phillip of Harrisburg and Darlene Dearing of Harrisburg; six grandchildren: Rena Conkle and Ed of Harrisburg, Rick "R.D." Dearing of Harrisburg, Scott Dearing and their father Dick Dearing of Harrisburg, Marci Odle of Harrisburg, Melissa Risley and Scott of Ridgway and Phillip Odle of Fort Lauderdale, FL; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren survive.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, great-granddaughter: Kaylan Grimes, three brothers: Leo, John and Jack Sweat, and three sisters: Lorene Chenoweth, Kathryn Holland and Pauline Harris.

Funeral services were held at 2 PM, Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Ken Tiffin officiated. Burial followed in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held from 1 to 2 PM, Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
